Nic
Degross and Darren Broome were coworkers at an Aspen-based bike store.
Their boss opened another shop in Carbondale to cater to the down valley
bike enthusiasts. In April 2009 the owner decided to step back from the
Carbondale store and asked Nic and Darren if they would be interested
in buying the shop. "We knew we had to make preparations to put
ourselves into the owner's position", mentioned Nic.
When this
opportunity arose, Nic and Darren decided to go for it. They were put in
touch with the Roaring Fork Business Resource Center through a client
of the shop. In October 2009 they meet with Randi Lowenthal, CEO of the
Center. "We were looking for guidance. We both had worked at bike
stores, but never owned one", said Darren. "It's a big jump". Their
meeting proved productive. "The networking through the Center was the
number one service that we got", added Nic. "We had the ability to be in
contact with the individuals that we needed to move forward".
One
of the advisors of the Center, Richard Feist of Colorado Business
Listings, assisted Nic and Darren with the intricacies of purchasing a
business. "He took us through a process that basically told us, yes,
this is a good deal, and this is how to conduct a buyout", said Darren.
Nic and Darren also received financial assistance via the Carbondale
Revolving Fund Loan, which is administered through the Center.

and Darren are excited provide the best customer service and take care
